New life to used plastic
For a while new we have discussed with our team how to repair the reputation of plastic. We agree that there is no need to produce something that already exists. But why not use already produced and used plastic and give it another life?
We decided to bring out the differences between virgin plastic, biodegradable and recycled plastic. Each material acts different and this affects the print quality and the durability of different materials.
Virgin plastic
PROS
- Sharp print, full coverage
- Material is glossy and smooth
- Very strong and durable, protects products well
- Reusable several times (especially with 2 peel & seal tapes)
- The plastic can be recycled 2-3 times until the molecules break down
CONS
- Production use fossil fuels
- Plastic might not end up in designated recycling facilities
- Products made out of virgin plastic cost average
Biodegradable plastic
PROS
- Biodegradable without special facilities
- Material feels more special – soft, smooth and matte finishing
- Produced from renewable resources
CONS
- Material is very soft and breaks easily
- Most probably is only used once due to breaking
- Products made from biodegradable plastic cost significantly more than any other
- The print looks faded on darker products
Recycled material
PROS
- Made from already existing plastic, smaller ecological impact
- Material is durable even compared to the virgin plastic
- Print is sharp
- Bag can be reused many times (especially with 2 peel & seal)
- Products are rather cheap compared to other plastics
- It can be recycled again until the molecules break down
CONS
- Dark backgrounds might look grainy due to the differences in material happening while being recycled
